Meanwhile, chez Chapman, we had a very nice afternoon whiling away the soggy day with some friends, a BBQ and beers. An Australian chef turned up to cook (well, he seemed to reckon he was) and we even enjoyed a star turn by a singing granddad and his guitar. Kids loved it (and so did most of the parents). The wheels on the bus surely do go round and round. That's the way to do it!

Flash floods and BBQs in Singapore
Seems to be a regular occurrence over here, although I would suspect that the vast amount of building work doesn't help matters by diverting the natural flow of water. However, it's still not as bad as many countries and when a country has this much rain, some flooding is inevitable. Isn't it? Still makes a lot of people 'enraged' though! Those 'Stompers' just love to get angry about it!

I think calling the floods in Singapore flash floods are a bit much. "Flash floods" make it sound like a total natural disaster and out of everyone's control. I don't think these floods in Singapore were really natural disasters... more of a mismanagement of our systems, and also all the overbuilding that has been going on.
ReplyDeleteThe main thing that makes me angry about the floods in Singapore is how the authorities never want to take the responsibility and have been so slow to really take action and find solutions.
